Stavrogin – Working Better

Stavrogin Working Better CD Cover

Stavrogin has been making electronic music for a number years now, studying it at college and building up a discography through numerous labels.  Also a part of the Stray Landings collective that document and highlight countless lesser known artists through their website and events.  Constantly immersed in a world of sound he is a true fan of his craft and definitely well on the way to becoming a master of it.  His unique atmospheric sound oscillates between dank, haunting pads, deep bass, and delicate yet punchy percussion to being sometimes somewhat abstract with distorted bass-lines and random vocal sampling.  One thing remains always and that is the emotional intensity that drives his songs.  “Working Better” is a perfect example especially when the main synth drops, tormented and full of heartfelt intent.  Lifting the soul while reminding the listener of the fragility in trying to make things work that little bit better.

Elefo Remix

Elefo Working Better CD Cover

Focusing mainly on the vocal and percussive elements Elefo has bumped the BPM up to 160.  Replacing the main synth with his distinctive GOIB sound, adding 808 toms, kicks and snares over an overwhelming bass-line, plus littering the bulk of the song with repeating vocal chops.  Just like the original it pushes forward with intensity and pulls at the emotional strings of the listener, retaining subtle optimism although never really forgetting to remind us of the “Working Better” struggle.
